Initiated by her observation of shadows reflected upon the ground, the artist spent many weeks perfecting the technique used to express objects in two dimensions onto canvas. The object becomes a representation of its own, and the canvas carries its own interpretation painted by the object, particularly when it's a live object or perishable such as fruit or people. Alexa's painting style is ephemeral, and the only thing remaining of Alexa Meade's art is her photographs. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved by combining the two techniques of photography and painting. It creates a flattened, two dimensional picture. Meade sometimes incorporates her painted figures in the 3D world surrounding them. They interact within this self-created universe. Thereby repealing the boundaries between photography, painting performance and installation.
